Agartala, Aug 18 (FD) Tripura BJP president and MLA Abhishek Debroy on Tuesday chaired a key organisational meeting with ministers and MLAs in the presence of Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha at the State Guest House, focusing on the party’s strategy for the upcoming elections and other organisational matters.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Debroy said the BJP was preparing for a series of elections, with the forthcoming Village Committee (VC) polls emerging as a major area of focus.
“It was an organisational meeting. We met to formulate our strategies and tactics for the upcoming elections and discuss various issues, primarily related to the organisation,” Debroy said.
He said the meeting also deliberated on the upcoming elections to Nagar Panchayats, Municipal Councils and Municipal Corporations, apart from the VC elections in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
According to Debroy, the party leadership discussed measures to further strengthen the BJP’s organisational base and prepare its machinery for the forthcoming electoral battles.
“Our discussions mainly focused on strengthening the party for the future. We will also give special attention to the Village Committee elections in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council,” the BJP state president said.
Asked whether the meeting also discussed a possible electoral understanding with Tipra Motha, particularly in view of the latter’s reported position that it would not enter into an alliance until commitments under the existing agreement are implemented, Debroy said discussions were still underway.
“Our party is a national party, and decisions are largely taken in Delhi. They are our alliance partners and are with us in the alliance. Discussions are going on, and we hope for the best,” he said.
Debroy added that a decision on the alliance issue could take a few more days and said the outcome would be communicated once the ongoing discussions are concluded.
“You will receive updates on this. It might take a few days, and you will come to know the outcome in due course,” he said.
The meeting assumes significance as the BJP moves to consolidate its organisational machinery ahead of the upcoming local body and Village Committee elections, while discussions over electoral coordination with alliance partner Tipra Motha continue. FD JK
