Ruling BJP and opposition Congress, CPI (M) filled candidate’s for election of Speaker

Agartala, Mar 23 (FD) The ruling BJP and opposition Congress on Thursday fielded their candidates for the post of speaker in Tripura assembly, the elections for which would be held on Friday, Bisnu Pada Karmakar, Secretary of Tripua Legislative Assembly said.
BJP fielded Biswabandhu Sen, the former deputy speaker of the assembly for the post, when the opposition Congress and CPI-M nominated Gopal Chandra Roy, a Congress legislator for the post of the speaker and both of them today submitted their nominations, Karmakar said.
Sen, while expressing his reactions, after filing the nominations said, “My party leaders have chosen my name and I have no doubt of victory as we are ruling party in the assembly”.
The opposition candidate Gopal Chandra Roy said, “I am grateful that opposition leaders have fielded me as candidate for speaker and I believe that the MLAs will cast vote in favour of me cutting across party line”.
Sen, a four-time MLA from Dharmanagar in North Tripura district discharged his responsibility as Deputy Speaker in the last assembly. FD JK
