Agartala, June 29 (FD) Tripura's Queen Pineapple industry received a significant boost on Sunday as 18 Letters of Intent (LoIs), collectively valued at nearly Rs 11 crore, were exchanged during a Buyer-Seller Meet held on the second day of the Tripura Queen Pineapple Global Festival 2026.
Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath said the agreements reflect growing confidence among buyers in the commercial potential of Tripura's Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged Queen Pineapple and are expected to create wider market opportunities for the state's farmers.
The Buyer-Seller Meet brought together around 40 buyers from different parts of the country, providing a common platform for producers, exporters, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), agripreneurs and institutional buyers to establish business linkages. The exchange of 18 LoIs, with an estimated business value of Rs 11 crore, marks a major step towards expanding the domestic and export market for Tripura's premium fruit.
The event was inaugurated by Union Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the presence of Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee and APEDA Deputy General Manager Sunita Rai.
Addressing the gathering, the speakers highlighted the immense potential of Tripura's Queen Pineapple in both domestic and international markets. They stressed the need to strengthen value chains through better processing, branding, packaging, exports and market connectivity to enhance farmers' incomes and promote sustainable horticultural growth.
The day's programme began with the live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Mann Ki Baat, attended by Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, senior government officials and festival participants.
Ratan Lal Nath said the encouraging response to the Buyer-Seller Meet would further strengthen Tripura's agri-export ecosystem by opening new marketing avenues for farmers and attracting greater investment in the horticulture sector. He added that the Queen Pineapple Global Festival has emerged as an important platform for connecting farmers, processors, exporters, entrepreneurs and institutional buyers while showcasing Tripura's premium horticultural produce to national and international markets.
