Agartala, Jan 16(FD): Tipra Motha, which is the ruling party in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) today, said that it would not compromise with any other demand except formation of a separate Tipraland within the tribal council area.
Addressing a gathering at Khumulwng, the headquarters of the TTAADC, about 25 km from here, the Chief of the Tipra Motha and royal scion, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma said, “This is our land and there will be no compromise on ‘Greater Tipraland’ demand”.
The elections for the sixty-member assembly in Tripura are slated for next month and twenty seats are reserved for tribals.
He also made it clear that his party would stitch an alliance in the ensuing elections with a national party which would give them assurance in writing that they would concede to the demand of a separate state.
The royal scion, which was ailing for some time and stayed in Kolkata and Shillong today returned to the state and addressed the gathering.
He alleged that when he was sick a party tried to allure him by offering the post of Chief Minister, huge money or the post of an MP.
“When I was sick, then they offered me the post of CM, huge money or the post of a member of parliament. I do not want anything. I want to remain in the heart of my own indigenous people even if I die for a cause”, he said.
Debbarma also said that if they want to offer him something, they should offer him with written assurance of giving separate Tipraland and nothing else.
In an oblique reference to BJP, the royal scion said, “This is our last fight for our survival. This is not my fight only; it is a fight for 13 lakh tribals in the state. No one would be able to buy me by any means”. FD JK
