Agartala, Oct 6 (FD) In a significant move towards energy sustainability, power ministers from all northeastern states, including Tripura's own Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath, convened in Delhi for a meeting presided over by Union Power Minister RK Singh.
During the meeting, it was unanimously decided to implement rooftop solar systems in all institutions, ranging from state secretariats to Panchayat offices, as part of an ambitious plan to reduce the region's reliance on conventional power sources.
Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath emphasized the central government's commitment to swiftly roll out this initiative, aligning Prime Minister's directive to meet at least 50% of the nation's power needs through renewable resources.
Nath clarified that the term "all institutions" encompasses schools, Panchayat offices, and all other government establishments, highlighting the inclusivity of the program.
Despite the initial investment required, Nath pointed out that the long-term benefits would significantly lower power expenses for these institutions.
Moreover, private households will also have the opportunity to adopt rooftop solar systems, with the government offering subsidies to encourage adoption.
This initiative marks a pivotal step towards a greener and more sustainable future for the northeastern region, reducing its dependence on traditional power sources. FD SB
