Residents of Ward No. 13 Protest Alleged Favoritism in Drainage Project
By Firstdespatch Feb 25, 2025
Agartala, Feb 25 (FD) The residents of Ward No. 13 in Agartala have raised strong objections to what they claim is selective action in the construction of concrete drains in their locality. The CPI(M) Abhoynagar Regional Committee has submitted a formal request to the administration, demanding an immediate investigation into the alleged favoritism.
The issue arose after the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) began constructing drains along both sides of the road from Durga Choumuhani Bridge to Barjala. Before starting the project, government officials conducted a survey and removed illegal encroachments to facilitate the work. However, residents have pointed out that a section of land allegedly encroached upon by Ward No. 13’s Corporator, Pradeep Chandra, has been excluded from demolition.
During the initial survey, boundary pillars were placed to mark encroachments, including a portion of Chandra’s residence. Yet, despite the removal of several other structures, his encroachment remains untouched, sparking accusations of administrative bias.
Local residents, especially those whose homes were demolished, have expressed frustration, calling this act unfair and politically motivated. They have urged the administration to take immediate action to remove Chandra’s encroachment and ensure the drainage project follows legal protocols.
The CPI(M) has demanded an impartial investigation and swift intervention to address the grievances of affected residents. The administration has yet to respond to the allegations. FD SB
