Agartala, Sep 15 (FD) Speculation is rife in the political circle that expansion of the council of ministers in Tripura is imminent as three ministerial berths are lying vacant in the state cabinet and many of the ministers are overburdened with their portfolios.
Highly influential sources in the ruling BJP said that with the capacity of having twelve ministers in the council of ministers in the state three berths were not fulfilled keeping in mind that some new political equations could arrive.
The tally of the ruling BJP rose to 34 in the sixty-member assembly in Tripura after it won the just concluded bi-elections to two constituencies, Boxanagar and Dhanpur. When the saffron party wrested Boxanagar from the CPI-M, it retained the Dhanpur constituency, the home turf of the union minister of state for Social Justice and women empowerment.
Sources in the saffron party in a condition of anonymity said, there is no representation from minorities in the state, while the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha is over burdened with the major portfolios like Health care, PWD, ICA, RD and Panchayat.
Moreover, the finance minister Pranajit Sinha is not very comfortable with the Finance portfolio, he added. FD JK
