Replica of 51 Shakti Peethas to Boost Tripura’s Spiritual Tourism: Minister

Agartala, July 27 (FD) Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday said the State Tourism Department’s ambitious project to construct replicas of all 51 Shakti Peethas at Bandowar in Udaipur, near the revered Tripureshwari Temple, will significantly strengthen the state’s position as a leading destination for religious and spiritual tourism.

Describing the initiative as a landmark project, Chowdhury said the replicas are being developed adjacent to the sacred Tripureshwari Temple to showcase Tripura’s rich religious, cultural and spiritual heritage. Once completed, he said, the complex is expected to emerge as a unique pilgrimage destination, attracting devotees from across the country and abroad while placing Tripura prominently on the national and international spiritual tourism map.

Highlighting the significance of the project, the minister said Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Adhokshajanand Devtirthji Maharaj, Peethadhishwar of the Purvamnaya Govardhan Math in Puri, visited the construction site on Monday morning and reviewed the progress of the work.

According to Chowdhury, the Shankaracharya appreciated the initiative and expressed confidence that the completed complex would draw large numbers of pilgrims from India and overseas. He also reportedly observed that the spiritual centre has the potential to evolve into a globally recognised destination for both religious pilgrimage and cultural tourism.

The minister said the project reflects the state government's commitment to preserving and promoting Tripura’s spiritual traditions while creating new opportunities for tourism-driven economic growth. Besides enhancing the state’s cultural identity, he said, the initiative would serve as a lasting legacy by presenting Tripura’s rich heritage to a wider global audience.

Reiterating the government's focus on developing world-class religious tourism infrastructure, Chowdhury said such initiatives would not only boost tourist footfall and generate employment but also strengthen Tripura’s standing as one of India’s emerging spiritual tourism destinations. FD JK
