Renowned Hajagiri dance guru and Padma Shri awardee Satyaram Reang passes away

Agartala, Oct 03 (FD) The celebrated Hajagiri dance guru and recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri award, Satyaram Reang, sadly passed away yesterday at the age of 85. He was a resident of Dashami Reang Para in Santirbazar, South Tripura District.

Born and raised in Shantirbazar, South Tripura district, Satyaram Reang dedicated his life to the art of Hojagiri. He was promoting Hojagiri and established a school to nurture young talents in this art form, where he imparted his wisdom and expertise.

His relentless efforts earned him accolades, including the Padma Shri in the Arts category in 2021, India's fourth-highest civilian award. He was also honored with the Sangeet Natya Akademy Award by the Government of India.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed deep sorrow over Reang's demise and praised his exceptional role in introducing Tripura's Janajati folk dance, Hojagiri, to the global stage. He offered heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and countless well-wishers, praying for peace for the departed soul. FD SB
