Agartala, May 8 (FD) The Indian Red Cross Society celebrated its Foundation Day by organizing a large-scale blood donation camp across Tripura. The two-day event, held in honor of World Red Cross Day and Red Crescent Day, aimed to highlight the importance of humanitarian service and blood donation.
The camps were inaugurated at the Red Cross central branch in Agartala by Tripura’s Governor, Indrasena Reddy Nallu, who also serves as the President of the Tripura Red Cross Branch. Several distinguished guests, including Vice President Paramananda Sarkar Banerjee and Chairman Bimal Kanti Roy, attended the event, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to serving humanity.
Chandan Debnath, General Secretary of the Tripura Red Cross State Branch, spoke about the continuous growth and expansion of the organization's social activities. He emphasized the Red Cross's role in addressing social issues such as anemia, addiction awareness, and disaster management.
In his address, Governor Nallu urged citizens to recognize the critical need for blood donations, noting that while Tripura has a growing awareness of its importance, the demand for blood can never be fully met. The event witnessed the participation of 34 blood donors at the central camp, with simultaneous camps across seven other districts of the state, including South, Sipahijala, Gomati, Khowai, Dhalai, North, and Unakoti. Approximately 200 individuals across the state contributed to the noble cause.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha virtually inaugurated the district-based blood donation camps, addressing the donors and encouraging them to follow in the footsteps of Red Cross founder Jean-Henri Dunant. He praised the efforts of the new Red Cross committee for organizing such a large-scale initiative and restructuring the organization’s operations at the district and subdivision levels. The success of this event underscored the growing enthusiasm for blood donation in Tripura, a positive sign for the future of the state's health services. FD SB JK
