Reangs demand recognition for their mother tongue, Kau Bru

Agartala, Nov 23 (FD) Reangs or otherwise known as Brus, which constitute a sizable portion of the Tripura’s tribal community are now demand for recognition of their own language Kau Bru.
The leaders explained that Kau Bru is their own language, which is different from Kokborok, the lingua franca of the tribals, mostly of the Tripuri and Jamatiya community.
People from all sections of the Brue community today gathered in a place and discussed their problems and then submitted a memorandum to the state’s minister for parliamentary affairs, Ratan Lal Nath.
The Reang community also demanded a general holiday on the day of Sangrama Puja, the customary deity of the community.
It is learnt that the community leaders also submitted the demand to the Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Saha, who assured to examine the matter.
The highlander community also demanded allocation of land for Apa Longthorai Temple, considered to be a consecrated pace for the Reang Community.
They also demanded to the chief minister to abandon the proposal for establishing a Motor Stand on the land. FD JK
