Agartala, Aug 28 (FD) A six-month-old girl from Subhashnagar in West Tripura has recovered from a complex congenital heart disease following timely detection and treatment under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), highlighting the role of early screening and government-supported healthcare interventions in saving young lives.
Ritwika, the daughter of Sukanta Das and Sunanda Das, was identified with physical abnormalities during a routine health screening conducted by the RBSK Mobile Health Team at Jirania Community Health Centre on February 9, 2026.
Suspecting a serious underlying condition, the medical team immediately referred the infant for advanced diagnostic tests. An echocardiography conducted at IGM Hospital on February 16 confirmed that Ritwika was suffering from a complex congenital heart disease.
Doctors advised that urgent surgery was necessary for her survival. She was subsequently referred to Apollo Children’s Hospital in Chennai for specialised treatment.
After further medical evaluation, Ritwika underwent a complex heart surgery on July 8, 2026. The procedure was successfully completed, and her health improved steadily during the post-operative period.
The RBSK team recently conducted a follow-up examination and found that Ritwika has recovered well. She is currently healthy and cheerful, marking a remarkable turnaround from the uncertainty surrounding her condition earlier this year.
The recovery is being seen as a significant success of the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram, which focuses on the early identification and intervention of health conditions among children.
The information was shared by the Health and Family Welfare Department in a statement, describing Ritwika’s recovery as an example of how timely screening, proper diagnosis, referral and specialised treatment can provide a new lease of life to children suffering from serious medical conditions.
