Agartala, June 1 (FD) Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Sunday inaugurated a newly constructed Agriculture Sub-Divisional Office and Agri Development Research-cum-Training Centres in Belonia under South Tripura district.
The minister inaugurated the new Agriculture Sub-Divisional Office at VC Nagar and an Agri Development Research-cum-Training Centre near Rajnagar Block, built at a cost of approximately ₹3.12 crore. Another Agri Development Research-cum-Training Centre constructed at BC Nagar at a cost of ₹3.11 crore was also inaugurated on the same day. Additionally, the Agriculture Sub-Director’s Office near Belonia English Medium School, built at a cost of ₹1.94 crore, was formally opened for public service.
Addressing the gathering, Ratan Lal Nath stated that both the Central and State Governments have undertaken several initiatives to increase farmers’ income and strengthen the agricultural sector. He highlighted that farmers are receiving support through agricultural machinery, modern farming techniques, and various training programmes designed to improve productivity and profitability.
The newly inaugurated facilities are equipped with modern training rooms, computers, internet connectivity, projectors, and video conferencing systems. According to the minister, these advanced infrastructures will serve as important centres for providing farmers with technical knowledge, skill development opportunities, and access to various government schemes and services.
“The objective is to bring modern agricultural services directly to the doorstep of farmers,” Nath said, expressing confidence that the new centres would help local farmers adopt innovative farming practices, improve productivity, and increase their income.
The minister also launched the month-long “Khet Bachao” (Save the Fields) Campaign, which will continue from June 1 to June 30. The campaign aims to promote environmentally sustainable farming practices while protecting agricultural land from degradation and pollution.
As part of the campaign, farmers have been encouraged to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and adopt natural farming methods on at least 25 percent of their cultivable land. Nath emphasized the importance of maintaining soil fertility and increasing agricultural output through organic and natural farming techniques. He also urged farmers to keep agricultural land productive throughout the year and take full advantage of government-supported agricultural schemes.
Several dignitaries attended the inauguration programme, including South Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Deepak Dutta, MLA Swapna Majumdar, Rajnagar Panchayat Samiti Chairman Biswajit Nath, and other local representatives. Speakers at the event encouraged farmers to utilize government welfare schemes and modern agricultural resources to enhance production and achieve greater economic stability.
Officials of the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department described the newly established facilities as a major milestone in Tripura’s ongoing efforts to modernize agriculture and ensure sustainable growth in the farming sector. The projects are expected to play a crucial role in transforming agricultural practices and improving the livelihoods of farmers across the Belonia subdivision. FD SB
