Agartala, May 26 (FD) In a remarkable display of surgical skill and medical expertise, Dr. Aniruddha Basak of Tripura Medical College (TMC) successfully saved the life of a 16-day-old infant suffering from a rare congenital intestinal condition. The complex surgery was performed on May 16 and lasted nearly two hours.
According to hospital sources, Debasri Sutradhar (32), wife of Ripon Sutradhar from Ranir Khamar under Amtoli police station, gave birth to a baby boy via caesarean section at IGM Hospital on May 10. Soon after birth, the newborn began vomiting bile frequently and was shifted to the ICU. When his condition failed to improve, specialists at IGM advised the parents to transfer the baby to TMC.
On May 14, the baby was admitted to TMC under Dr. Basak’s care. After a series of tests, Dr. Basak diagnosed the infant with a rare congenital condition involving tangled intestines. A critical and rare operation was deemed necessary.
The surgery, performed on May 24, involved untangling and resetting the baby’s intestines. The procedure was successful, and the baby has since shown normal behavior and steady recovery. He has now been discharged from the hospital.
The grateful parents, Ripon and Debasri Sutradhar, expressed heartfelt thanks to Dr. Aniruddha Basak and his team for saving their son’s life. This successful case has been hailed as a milestone for pediatric care in the region. FD JK
