Agartala, Apr 20 (FD) 30 rapid action teams of police and paramilitary forces were formed by the administration to resist any attempt of post poll violence in the West Tripura parliamentary constituency, where elections were concluded in the first phase of elections yesterday.
The Returning Officer of the constituency, Dr Vishal Kumar and Superintendent of Police (SP), West Tripura District, Kiran Kumar on Saturday visited Nandan Nagar area, at the outskirts of the city following a complaint from the opposition INDIA Block that house of one election agent was attacked by a group of miscreants last night after the elections was completed.
“We are examining the each and every complaints lodged to us. We have formed 30 rapid action teams of Tripura police and Tripura state rifles (TSR), which would rapidly interfere after any incident of violence in the constituency. We are also cautioning them who are trying to create violence in the constituency”, the Returning Officer (RO), who is also the District Magistrate of West Tripura district told reporters.
Meanwhile, the election commission of India, has released the final polling percentage of the election held yesterday to the West Tripura Loksabha seat comprising thirty assembly segments. As per the final figures released by the office of the chief electoral officer (CEO) Puneet Agarwal, the finall polling percentage in West Tripura LS seat is 81.514%.
The ruling BJP has fielded former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb against INDIA bloc nominee Asish Kumar Saha of the Congress in Tripura West Parliamentary constituency.
In the by-election for Ramnagar, the BJP nominated Agartala Mayor, Dipak Majumder against former CPI(M) MLA Ratan Das as the INDIA bloc candidate.
The opposition alleged that the ruling party intimidated their workers.
"Around 80 per cent of polling agents could not function appropriately in both Lok Sabha constituency and Ramnagar Assembly segment because of the intimidation,” TPCC president and Lok Sabha poll candidate Asish Kumar Saha alleged. FD JK
