Agartala, Apr 19 (FD) Tensions have surfaced in parts of Tripura following reports of post-election violence, raising fresh concerns about law and order despite the formal conclusion of the democratic process. A serious incident has been reported from Janmejoy Nagar in Pekuajala, where workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party were allegedly attacked, triggering fear and displacement among local residents.
Local MLA Ram Prasad Paul visited the affected areas to assess the situation on the ground. He described the incident as deeply unfortunate and strongly condemned the violence, alleging the involvement of individuals linked to the Tipra Motha Party. According to preliminary reports, several BJP workers and leaders from Gholaghati, Takarjala, and nearby regions fled their homes fearing further attacks.
Upon receiving information, Ram Prasad Paul, accompanied by party workers, reached the violence-hit zones, interacted with victims, and reviewed the situation in detail. He also engaged with local police authorities, urging immediate and strict action to prevent any recurrence of such incidents. The MLA emphasized the need for swift administrative intervention to restore normalcy in the region.
Appealing for restraint, he highlighted that political differences are an inherent part of democracy, but violence undermines its very foundation. He called on all communities to uphold peace, harmony, and brotherhood in the aftermath of the elections.
Earlier, key leaders including Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, Chief Minister Manik Saha, BJP State President Rajib Bhattacharjee, and Minister Tinku Roy had collectively appealed for calm across the state. These appeals followed allegations of post-poll unrest linked to supporters of the Tipra Motha Party after the ADC election results.
Despite repeated calls for peace, reports indicate that tensions continue to simmer in certain pockets. The situation has prompted concerns among residents and political observers, underlining the urgent need for coordinated efforts by authorities to ensure stability and public safety across the state.
