Agartala, Dec 08 (FD) Former Chief Minister of Tripura and Member of Parliament Biplab Kumar Deb, on his first day of the winter session in Rajya Sabha raised the demand for setting up a circle office of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in Tripura.
Deb, who was recently elected to the Upper House of Parliament, began his speech by greeting and congratulating the Speaker and all the members of the House and requested for setting up an ASI's circle office in Tripura.
In support of the petition, he said that Tripura has a diverse and unique cultural heritage.
Deb said, “Along with Tripura Sundari Temple, the state has a glorious history of several important archaeological sites like Unakoti, Pilak, Boxanagar etc.”
“Tripura has huge potential for development of the tourism industry through conservation and proper management of cultural and archaeological monuments,” he added.
The MP pointed out that the lack of a circle office of ASI in the state is creating the communication gap resulting in slowness in its overall implementation.
He said, “Since there is no circle office of Archaeological Survey of India in the state, the communication gap is causing some slowness in its overall implementation.”
Deb expressed the hope that if ASI's circle office is set up in Agartala, it will speed up the process of conservation of archaeological sites in Tripura in collaboration with the state government.
He said, “The establishment of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) Tripura Circle Office at Agartala has made conservation of archaeological sites in Tripura a priority by increasing collaboration with the state government.”
Praising the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for developmental works in the Northeastern states, Biplab Kumar Deb said “Overall development of the North East has been accelerated under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
He said, “Double Engine Government’ is working on priority development in this sector including tourism. Tripura has huge potential heritage-rich and other culturally important places are also under conservation and protection of ASI. The circle office can take a special role to bring.”
Deb seemed hopeful that by developing Tripura's tourism sector, the overall goal of transforming the North-East as India's 'Ashtalakshmi' would be achieved and the initiative would lead to the overall preservation of culture. FD PD JK
