Protests force cancellation of recruitment process at Tripura Central University

Agartala, Sept 26 (FD) Employees and irregular staff members of Tripura Central University staged a daylong protest against what they deemed unjust promotion and recruitment processes.
Allegations have arisen that the University's Register, MK Sharma, is attempting to appoint individuals from outside the state to group C and group D positions, thereby sidelining local candidates. Consequently, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha's office has summoned Register MK Sharma to address these complaints.
Irregular non-teaching staff members have accused the University authorities of planning examinations for 78 group C and group D vacant positions, which is unusual for promotion processes. Typically, promotions in non-teaching roles are based on seniority and performance without the need for exams. The absence of a seniority list raised concerns that the Vice-Chancellor and Register might be attempting to promote favouritism without transparency.
In response to the uproar and protests, Tripura Central University authorities have temporarily cancelled the examination. The Chief Minister's OSD, Paramananda Sarkar Banerjee, has requested Registrar MK Sharma's presence at his office for an inquiry into alleged irregularities in recruitment and promotion, with a focus on ensuring opportunities for local unemployed youths.
