Price of Tripura tea shots up in Guwahati auction market

Agartala, Nov 22 (FD) The demand for finished tea grown in Tripura is gradually increasing as the price of Tripura tea suddenly shot up from Rs.129 to Rs. 213 this year, sources in the Tripura Tea Development Corporation Ltd (TTDC) said.

The TTDC, which has 54 tea gardens and 24 tea processing factories, this year produced around 6.84 lakh kg of finished tea in the current year till October, 2024 while it had produced 7.18 lakh kg of finished tea during 2023-24 financial year.

Officials of the TTDC said, even as tea production was less than the last year, it earned more money as the quality of the product has gone up.

“The quality has improved as the government had launched an Rs 85 crore scheme for development of tea industry and tea workers, a logo was unveiled and the tea produced in the state has been branded as Tripureswari tea”, an official said. FD JK
