President Murmu on state visit to Portugal & Slovakia from 7th to 10th April

President  Droupadi Murmu will embark on State Visits to Portugal and Slovakia from April 7-10, 2025. MEA’s Secretary (West), Tanmaya Lal,  informed today while interacting with the media that President will meet and hold delegation-level talks with her Portuguese counterpart, President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. The President will also meet the Prime Minister of Portugal, Luis Montenegro and the President of the National Assembly (Parliament), Jose Pedro Aguiar-Branco. She will also hold bilateral meetings with President of Slovakia Peter Pellegrini and Prime Minister  Robert Fico.

President Draupadi Murmu visit to Portugal is taking place after a gap of 27 years, and comes as India and Portugal are celebrating 50 years of re-establishment of diplomatic relations. India and Portugal share historic and friendly bilateral ties which have evolved over the years into a modern and dynamic partnership. The visit will provide further impetus to India’s growing relations with Portugal. President Droupadi Murmu will also visit  Slovakia.  

This will be the first visit by the President of India to Slovakia in 29 years. The State Visit by President will provide an opportunity to further strengthen and broaden  bilateral relations of India with Portugal and Slovakia and will also strengthen India and EU relationship.
