Agartala Oct 13 (FD) Two passenger trains started off its journey with honorable president Draupadi Murmu and Tripura CM Dr. Manik
Saha flagging off from Agartala Railway Station on Thursday.
The two trains that the president flagged off are-- Agartala-Khongsang Janshatabdi Express and another Agartala-Kolkata Express from here, which would boost connectivity in the region.
Chief Minister Manik Saha, Union minister Pratima Bhoumik and state transport minister Pranajit Singha Roy were among those present at the programme at Agartala railway station.
The Janshatabdi Express will cover a distance of 600 km in six hours from the Tripura capital to Khongsang in Manipur via Jiribam, a senior railway official said. Currently, it takes 15 hours to reach Jiribam in Manipur from Agartala by road.
The other express train, which so far ran between Kolkata and Guwahati, will now ply till Agartala, thus connecting the three cities via rail link.
"People of Tripura who visit Kolkata for various purposes – be it treatment, education or tourism – will immensely benefit from the new service," the official added.
Murmu, who had arrived in Tripura on Wednesday, later visited the famous Tripureswari temple at Udaipur, which is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas and offered her prayers.
Chief Minister in a facebook post said, “Today I offered Puja at the Mata Tripureswari temple along with honorable president of India Smt. Draupadi Murmu at Udaipur. She is extensively informed about this pilgrimage as one of the 51 peeths. I prayed for her good health and long life as well as the welfare for the people in the state.”
The president left for Guwahati at 11:45 am. FD DM JK
