Agartala, Sept 7 (FD) Tripura Government is mulling to launch a prepaid taxi service before Durga puja celebration, official sources said today.
Tripura transport minister Pranjit Singha Roy had earlier announced the probable date for launching the taxi service by September 8.
However, his assurance could not be implemented due to necessary preparations by the government officials.
The government officials from transport department held a high level meeting on Tuesday at the airport and it was decided that the service would be provided to people before Durga puja celebrations.
After the meeting, the joint commissioner of the transport dept, Ajit Debnath said that the service will be launched before Durga Puja itself, and a four wheeler prepaid counter will be started soon after. The prepaid counter will be opened at the arrival gate of the airport, he added.
The transport authorities are now preparing the room provided by airport authorities for a prepaid booth along with necessary technical requirements and infrastructure. The booth will be operated by the transport department.
After the meeting on Tuesday, authorities went to oversee the site for prepaid counter and the police booth.
Agartala airport will now have the facility for arriving passengers to book transport services at government set rates; memo will be displayed at the police booth and they have to follow a queue to their assigned vehicle, without any intervention of the auto and other vehicle drivers. FD DM JK
