Pratima Bhoumik Urges Centre to Improve Mobile Connectivity in Remote Tripura Habitations
By News On Air Oct 02, 2026
Agartala, Oct 2 (FD) Former Union Minister of State and former Tripura West Lok Sabha MP Pratima Bhoumik has urged Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia to take steps to improve mobile connectivity in remote, tribal and border habitations of Tripura, particularly in Sepahijala district.
In a letter dated October 1, Bhoumik highlighted the importance of reliable mobile connectivity for residents of remote settlements, particularly for accessing emergency assistance, medical services and other essential facilities.
She noted that 57 of the 65 habitations identified for mobile coverage under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) had been covered as of June 30, 2026, while eight habitations were still awaiting connectivity. Welcoming the progress made so far, she requested the Union minister’s intervention for the early coverage of the remaining habitations.
Bhoumik also sought a fresh habitation-wise and para-wise assessment of mobile connectivity in several areas under Mohanbhog Block of Sepahijala district. The areas mentioned in her letter include Chandul VC, Jagatram Para VC, Ulukhala under Taibandal VC, Kalikhola VC, Nidaya GP and Bhabanipur GP.
She pointed out that smaller settlements within villages officially recorded as covered might still face a lack of connectivity or weak and intermittent network services. She urged the authorities to identify such gaps and provide suitable mobile towers and network improvements under PM-JANMAN and other eligible government programmes.
The former MP further called for a district-wise action plan with clearly defined completion timelines to address the remaining connectivity gaps and provide greater assurance to residents of remote communities.
Bhoumik said improved mobile connectivity would help bring essential services, development opportunities and emergency support closer to families living in some of Tripura’s most remote settlements. FD JK
