Agartala, Oct 19 (FD) Tipra Motha leader Pradyot Debbarma reaffirmed his party's distinct ideology, declaring that it was not founded to serve as a "B-team" for any political party. In a public audio message on Saturday, Debbarma encouraged his party members to raise their voices against any form of crime or injustice.
His statement comes in the wake of growing tensions over the alleged custodial torture and death of tribal man Badal Tripura in Manubazar. Tripura, arrested on charges of theft, died at his home on October 16, sparking outrage across the region. A magisterial inquiry has been launched, and five police officers have been arrested.
Debbarma, addressing the growing divide among communities, expressed concern about people focusing on religious differences rather than development, employment, or infrastructure.
"People are quarreling over religion instead of addressing the real issues," he said, urging Tipra Motha workers to stay committed to their values and speak out against crimes peacefully.
Tipra Motha, an ally of the BJP in Tripura’s ruling coalition, aims to foster harmony and development, Debbarma emphasized, adding that silence in the face of injustice goes against the party’s founding principles.
