Power Minister hints at increase of power tariff

Agartala, Sept 7 (FD) The minister for power Ratan Lal Nath hinted that the power tariff for the common people in the state would be hiked to provide better service.
His reaction came in the state assembly yesterday, when Congress MLA, Sudip Roy Barman pointed out that the state was reeling under huge power cut, load shedding and people were fed up with the situation.
Nath said that the Tripura State Electrical Corporation Limited (TSECL) is running at serious loss and the top brasses of the corporation categorically stated that there is no alternative of hiking the tariff.
He also informed the assembly that the power regulatory board had held hearing on the subject for opinion from the consumers but only three persons appeared in the hearing.
He said has been decided that there will be a tariff hike upon different slabs and at differential rates.
Congress MLA Sudip Roybarman also pointed out that the private parties brought in the state for power sector like the ‘Sai Computers’ and FIDCO were not providing good service to the consumers and were indulging in irregularities.
Nath, in reply said, as the government was aware about the bad services of the two companies has filed a case in a Delhi court and the matter is still subjudice. FD JK
