Agartala, Jan 20 (FD) A registration camp under the PM-Surya Ghar Mukt Bijli Yojana was held today at the Mohanpur Municipal Council office, inaugurated by Power Minister Ratanlal Nath. The initiative, organized by the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), aims to promote solar energy adoption for sustainable electricity generation.
In his inaugural speech, the Power Minister stressed the vital role of electricity in modern life, noting that even a moment without power disrupts daily activities. He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's emphasis on expanding solar power projects to enhance the country’s electricity network. According to Nath, solar power is a leading renewable energy source, offering an effective and sustainable solution for electricity production.
He elaborated on the government’s vision of empowering households with self-sufficient power generation. Under the PM-Surya Ghar Mukt Bijli Yojana, installing a 1-kilowatt solar panel system costs between ₹65,000 and ₹75,000, with a subsidy of up to ₹33,000. Similarly, a 2-kilowatt system receives ₹66,000, and a 3-kilowatt system qualifies for ₹85,800 in subsidies. This scheme enables homeowners not only to meet their electricity needs but also to earn income by selling surplus power.
The registration camp collected applications from beneficiaries eager to participate in the program. Among the dignitaries present were Rakesh Deb, Chairman of Mohanpur Panchayat Samiti; Anita Debnath, Chairperson of Mohanpur Municipal Council; Vice-Chairperson Shankar Deb, and senior TSECL officials Shiris Debbarma, Sujata Sarkar, and Khokon Debbarma.
