Post poll violence: leaders of ruling and opposition parties appeal for peace

Agartala, Feb 21 (FD) When the incidents of post poll violence continue to rock Tripura, where elections for the sixty-member assembly was held on Feb 16 last, the leaders of ruling BJP and opposition CPI(M) have appealed to all sections of people to maintain calm and peace and not to aggravate the situation.
BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee appealed to people to maintain peace until the results of the election is not announced.
The opposition CPI (M) state secretariat in an appeal to the people including party supporters and workers to maintain peace and harmony and help police to maintain law and order.
“There will be lot of speculations and this has already resulted in unnecessary worry and clashes to victimize the opposition party workers and supporters; such things should not happen and everyone should keep patience and restrain so that peace and harmony in the state is not disturbed” a party statement said.
Meanwhile, Bhattacharjee visited Unokoti District, from where incidents of violence were reported. He alleged that the Congress and CPI (M) were trying to create a chaotic situation in the state before the vote counting sensing a humiliating defeat.
He appealed to them to abstain from such activities and warned of dire consequences if they continue to foment the situation.
Tripura Chief Secretary J K Sinha also appealed to people for maintaining peace and tranquility and held meetings with the officials of the state police department and advised them to take stern actions, who tried to take law in their hands. FD JK
