Post-poll violence in Tripura: 21 arrested in 16 incidents, peace meeting held

Agartala, Feb 18 (FD) Chief Electoral Officer of Tripura- Kiran Gitte on Saturday said a total of 16 cases of post-poll violence were registered in various places of the state since Thursday night.
Addressing a press conference, he said, “Incidents of post-poll violence coming from several places of the state despite Election Commission’s appeal for zero poll violence.”
Gitte said a total of 16 incidents which includes nine in Sepahijala district, two from Gomati district, one from Khowai, two from Unakoti and two from West Tripura district have been reported so far. Immediate action has been taken in every incident of post-poll violence, he added.
The CEO said that total 21 persons were arrested in this connection and around 100-150 people were served notices.
He said peace meetings with the representatives of all political parties in all 23 sub-divisions held on Saturday. FD PD
