Agartala, Apr 20 (FD) Allegations of post-poll violence rocked parts of Tripura following the declaration of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) results, with the ruling BJP on Monday accusing Tipra Motha Party (TMP) workers of orchestrating attacks on its supporters.
State BJP president Rajib Bhattacharya claimed that several party workers were assaulted and their houses vandalised after the results were announced on April 17. He made the remarks after visiting displaced BJP workers taking shelter at Saheed Bhagat Singh Yuva Awas in Agartala.
“Not a single criminal will be spared,” Bhattacharya said, asserting that the BJP remains committed to development and not violence. He added that temporary shelter has been arranged at six locations for affected workers.
Bhattacharya said he had spoken to Chief Minister Manik Saha, who is expected to return from West Bengal and convene a high-level meeting to review the law and order situation. “He is aware and will take necessary steps to ensure safe return of our workers,” he said.
The BJP leader further alleged that attempts to arrest those involved were being obstructed by road blockades.
Meanwhile, fresh tension was reported from Janmejoy Nagar in Pekuajala, where BJP workers were allegedly attacked. Local MLA Ram Prasad Paul visited the area, termed the incident “condemnable,” and urged police to take strict action.
Several BJP workers from Gholaghati, Takarjala and adjoining areas have reportedly fled their homes fearing further violence.
Despite appeals for peace by leaders across parties, including TMP chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma and the Chief Minister, sporadic incidents have raised concerns over law and order in parts of the state. FD JK
