Agartala, Sep 22 (FD) As the elections for the 60-member State Assembly is drawing nearer the political clashes have increased in the state among the rival political parties.
At least 12 CPM carders were injured, one among them seriously in Udaipur on Friday when a group of miscreants attacked them on their way to attend a party programme.
The seriously injured CPM worker was sent to GB Hospital while others were treated in Udaipur.
The programme was addressed by CPM Politburo member and former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar.
Addressing the meeting Sarkar came down heavily on the ruling BJP and accused the ruling party is being carrying out political violence in the state to prevent the opposition party.
Sarkar called upon all to launch a concerted fight against the BJP‘s misrule in the state. This party has to be routed this time or the situation will turn worse, he added.
In his speech Sarkar dwelt upon the shortage of teachers in schools and also on MNREGA mandays.
Among others, CPM MLA Ratan Bhowmik, ex-Minister Naresh Jamatia and other leaders were present in the programme.
As there were tension even before the CPM programme started the police did not take any risk and put up a massive security arrangements.
However, following the attacks on the CPM supporters allegedly by the BJP activists, sources said, there were still a strong undercurrent of tension in Udaipur but the situation was under control.
Earlier, at least five persons were reportedly injured after clashes broke out between supporters of BJP and the opposition CPIM at Bijoy Nagar Panchayat area in Sabroom under the South Tripura district recently. FD PD JK
