Agartala, May 23 (FD) Chairman of TIPRA Motha Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma and former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar continue to fire salvo against each other on the issues like development and politics of Tripura.
Motha Chief on Tuesday strongly criticized Sarkar for his alleged failure to fulfill his responsibilities as the leader of the opposition over the past five years.
In a social media post he asked Sarkar, also the former Chief Minister and at present CPIM Politburo member, to remain silent, as he had failed wretchedly in his role as the leader of the opposition during the last five years.
However, very recently, Sarkar criticized the Manikya kings, the predecessor of Tipra Motha Chief, that the state remained backward, even as the monarch had collected huge taxes from Chakla Roshnabad, a revenue division in British rule in the neighbouring then East Bengal.
Sarkar brought a scathing attack in a party meeting in Sipahijala district recently and said the kings only dug a few water bodies and built some schools in their name.
In a social media post, Pradyot Debbarma wrote, “We will be contesting the bye-election in the Dhanpur Assembly Constituency. I want to advise Manik Sarkar to refrain from speaking, as he has been ineffective in his duties as the leader of the opposition. We are strategizing how to secure a victory in the Dhanpur assembly. I have come to understand that where there is no chance of Tipra Motha winning, we should not field our candidate, and similarly, you should understand that where the chances of CPIM winning are low, no candidate should be put forward. It should be a fair 1:1 contest”.
He also said that as the Lok Sabha elections were drawing near the opposition political parties should not fight amongst themselves as it will yield no benefits. FD JK
