Agartala, Nov 28 (FD) The opposition CPI (M) and ruling BJP leader in Tripura today pleaded to secular-minded forces in Bangladesh to raise their voices against the alleged attacks on minorities and to launch a movement to throw out the interim government there.
Secretary of the Tripura unit of the opposition CPI-M Jitendra Chowdhury claimed that the present government in Bangladesh opined that Pakistan can be a good friend, which means that the Government is working against the spirit of liberation war in the neighbouring country.
Tripura minister for fisheries and animal husbandry, Sudhangshu Das on Thursday also condemned the attack on minorities in the neighbouring country and appealed to the secular forces in Bangladesh to oust this government.
Addressing people in a gathering here, he said, an inhuman government was established in Bangladesh, which was disrupting the values, traditions and culture of Bangladesh.
“How can we tolerate when the women folks in the neighbouring country are being tortured or raped and nobody comes to save them. I must write to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to oust this government”, he said.
“The situation in Bangladesh is now not normal. An interim government has taken over the reins there, which has launched attacks on minorities. I would appeal to the people who are secular to launch a movement to change the present government in Bangladesh”, the CPI(M) leader told reporters.
He alleged that hundreds of statues of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibar Rahaman were demolished and they stated that these statues should not remain place there.
Attacks on minorities become inevitable when an autocratic government reins power and initiate attacks on the minorities and Bangladesh is experiencing the same, Chowdhury alleged.
Asked to comment on the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das, who advocates minority rights in Bangladesh, Chowdhury said, "I am talking about the attacks on the minorities and that should be stopped."
India had recently noted the arrest and denial of bail to Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh, and urged authorities in the neighbouring country to ensure the safety and security of Hindus and all other minority groups. FD JK
