Agartala, Sep 21 (FD) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay a short visit to Tripura on Monday to inaugurate redeveloped Tripureswari temple at Udaipur, about 60 KM from here and fly back after 45 minutes, official sources said.
“Taking a break from his usual practice of addressing public gatherings during his upcoming visit to Tripura on September 22, restricting his engagement to a 45-minute ceremony at the historic Tripureswari temple without delivering a speech”, District Magistrate of Gomati district, Rinku Lather told reporters.
The decision marks a departure from standard protocol as Modi travels to Gomati district to inaugurate the redeveloped temple, one of India’s 51 revered Shakti Peethas.
The 523-year-old shrine, originally built in 1501 by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya, has undergone extensive renovation under the Centre’s PRASAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive) scheme, with an investment of ₹52 crore aimed at boosting religious tourism in the Northeast.
According to the official itinerary, Modi will arrive at Agartala’s Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport at 3 pm and proceed by helicopter to Palatana. From there, he will travel to the temple by road amid heightened security. Trial runs of the entire route from Palatana power plant to the temple have already been conducted as part of security arrangements.
Chief Minister Manik Saha, along with his cabinet colleagues and senior officials, will accompany the Prime Minister at the inauguration. The Chief Minister, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, and Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar have already reviewed the preparations on-site.
This will be Modi’s 11th visit to Tripura since 2014, with his most recent trip on April 17, 2024. The redeveloped temple complex is expected to emerge as a major attraction for religious tourism in the state. FD JK
