Agartala, Mar 15 (FD) In a heart-wrenching incident, a dog was brutally dragged to its death by a speeding vehicle on the Sabroom-Agartala National Highway on Monday that has sparked outrage among animal lovers.
The helpless dog, which was tied to the vehicle through a rope on its right rear leg, was seen being tossed around and twisted along the road's potholes. Bishal Singh, an animal lover who witnessed the incident while travelling from Agartala to Sabroom, stopped the vehicle and demanded to know why the driver was dragging the dog. The driver, identified as Subrata Nama from the Satchan area under the Manu Bazar police station, allegedly replied that "This is my wish" before speeding away.
Singh managed to capture the incident on video, which quickly went viral on social media, prompting a massive outcry from netizens who demanded justice for the innocent pet. It was later revealed that the dog was a pet, not a stray.
Agartala-based NGO for animals, Pawsome, took up the issue and lodged a complaint at the Manu Bazar police station, calling for the driver to face appropriate punishment for his cruel actions. The police subsequently arrested Subrata Nama and presented him before the Sabroom court, seeking police remand on Wednesday.
During preliminary interrogation, Nama denied his involvement behind the brutal incident, police said.
