Agartala, Sept 01 (FD) Perturbed by the repeated incidents of dacoity and thefts and subsequent inaction of police in the capital town, a group of people from Champamura, Aralia and Baldakhal today submitted a deputation to the Superintendent of Police of West Tripura district.
People, who submitted the deputation, expressed their deep concern as no one was arrested after so many incidents of thefts and dacoity took place in the city and police played the role of mute spectators.
They also stated that night’s sleep of the citizens were snatched by the robbers and burglars and police failed to protect people and provide safety and security of them.
However, sources in the police said that the rising cases of theft in Agartala city are one way or the other linked to the growing drug nexus as the majority of the thieves who have been nabbed in the last couple of weeks are drug addicts.
On Sunday last, one such daring theft incident was caught in camera while a thief found coming out from a flat in Ramnagar area in the city.
The footage reportedly recorded by some workers went viral on social media and it clearly showed the thief escaping from the flat after committing the theft incident. The thief reportedly decamped with cash and gold ornaments in absence of the family members.
Recently, a gang of armed dacoits had stormed inside the house of contractor Liton Ghosh of Baldakhal area and looted around Rs 70,000 cash and gold ornaments from the house.
Earlier, bank employee Rajesh Das’s house was looted in almost similar way at Aralia area located in the outskirts of Agartala city.
Raising serious questions against the role of mobile patrolling system of police administration, the locals demanded arrest of the culprits involved in the theft incidents. FD PD JK
