Paris Paralympics Day 9: Praveen Kumar wins gold medal in Men’s High Jump T64 final

At the Paris Paralympic Games, star athlete Praveen Kumar bagged a gold medal in the Men’s High Jump T64 final. Praveen secured the top spot on the podium with a brilliant effort of 2.08m, setting a new Area record. In a tightly contested final, Praveen made seven successful jumps in a row to claim the number one position. Loccident Derek of the USA won the silver medal, while Giyazov Temurbek of Uzbekistan took home the bronze. With this gold, India have climbed to the 14th spot in the medal tally with a total of 26 medals, including 6 gold, 9 silver and 11 bronze.
On Day 9, Indian athletes will be eyeing podium finish in Power Lifting and multiple disciplines of Athletics later in the day. In Powerlifting, Kasthuri Rajamani will be in action in women’s 67kg final. The event will start at 8:30 PM IST.
In the evening session of Athletics, Bhavanaben Ajabaji Chaudhary will be in action in Women’s Javelin Throw F46 Final. The event will start at 10:30 PM IST. In the final medal event of the day for India, Soman Rana and Hokato Hotozhe Sema will be eyeing a podium finish in Men’s Shot Put F57 Final. The competition will begin at 10:34 PM IST.
Further, Indian para-runner Dilip Gavit qualified for the final of Men’s 400m T47 event after finishing third in Round 1 in Heat 1. He clocked a season best time of 49.54 seconds. Meanwhile, after finishing at a heart-breaking fourth position in the women’s 100m T12 final, Simran qualified for the semi-final of Women’s 200m T12 event. She finished first in Heat 5 of Round 1, clocking a time of 25.41 seconds.
In Canoeing, Yash Kumar qualified for the semi-finals after finishing sixth in Men’s Kayak Single 200m KL1 Heat 1, while Prachi Yadav and Pooja Ojha too qualified for the semi-finals after finishing fourth and fifth in their respective heats in Women’s Va’a Single 200m VL2 and Women’s Kayak Single 200m KL1 respectively.
Dipesh Kumar missed out on a medal in Men’s Javelin Throw F54 final. With only a few days left for the Paralympic games to conclude, India will be eyeing for a grand finish in Paris.
