Agartala, Mar 11(FD) A team of the opposition leaders and MPs, which came to Tripura to take stock of the situation of the post-poll violence, said that it will raise the issue in Parliament to bring the matter to the knowledge of all countrymen.
The team which came under attack allegedly by the ruling BJP sheltered goons at Nehalchandranagar in Sipahijala district during its tour yesterday said that the matter would be brought to the notice of the President of India Droupadi Murmu to apprise her of the “terror unleashed by the goons sheltered by the saffron party”.
Admitting the fact that the delegation was attacked by “unidentified miscreants”, police said three people have so far been arrested in connection with Friday's incident.
CPI (M) Rajya Sabha MP Elmaram Kareem alleged that “an unprecedented terror was let loose by the members of the ruling BJP” after the result of the Feb 16 elections was announced on March 2 last.
He further alleged that the opposition party supporters were not only attacking the supporters of the opposition camp, they also broke houses and shops owned by them or also the small poultry firms, which is tantamount to attack on their livelihood.
Kareem, who arrived here along with seven MPs and senior leaders, also met the Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya and briefed him about the violence and alleged that police played a very inactive role to book the culprits.
Governor assured them to take all possible measures to contain the situation.
CPI (M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury said at least 1,000 incidents of post-poll violence have been reported in the state.
However, BJP has denied any involvement of their party into the incidents of post-poll violence.
BJP spokesperson, Subrata Chakraborty said it was a deep rooted conspiracy to tarnish the image of BJP, which does not believe in political violence.
“Our Chief Minister Manik Saha is camping in Delhi at present. Before leaving for Delhi he has instructed the DGP of police to crush the violence in iron hand”, he added. FD JK
