Agartala, Jan 28 (FD) When the BJP Government has declined to allot venues to the opposition CPI-M in Tripura, the party has decided to hold a public rally before the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan here on Wednesday, a senior party leader said here on Tuesday.
Leader of the opposition and the state Secretary of the CPI-M, Jitendra Chowdhury said a month before the party had sought permission to hold a party rally on the Swami Vivekananda ground here to mark the beginning of the three day state conference of the party, but the Government denied to provide the venue to them on the plea that a fair of the Self Help Groups (SHG) would be held there on that day.
The party then applied for a venue at the Umakanta School ground, but that was denied showing the ruse that a school cannot be closed for a rally of the political party.
“So, we have been forced to organise the rally tomorrow before the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan as we were not given any venue for our rally on the beginning of our 24th state conference on Wednesday. The state conference is held once in three years”, Chowdhury told reporters.
Party’s Coordinator, Prakash Karat, politburo members Brinda Karat, Maik Sarkar and more senior leaders of the party are scheduled to hold the rally, he said.
Chowdhury said that they have obtained permission to hold the rally before the Rabindra Bhavan, the place they wanted to avoid as the place is small.
“Now I request administration and police to ensure peace as we want to avoid any trouble”, he said.
The veteran communist leader alleging that their rally before the Umakanta School was denied on a political ground, but the ruling BJP had organised rally there on January, 2023, which was addressed by their party president J P Nadda.
“This is the instance of Ek Tripura Srestha Tripura. In fact they are scared of our activities”, he said.
The CPI-M politburo member Manik Sarkar alleged that the BJP workers were damaging their party’s flags and festoons in different parts of the state ahead of the party conference, because they are scared of party’s activity.
Chowdhury said that all the state conferences in different states would be completed before the party’s 24th Congress to be held at Madurai on April, where the party would finalise its road maps for its future programmes.
