Agartala, June 19 (FD) A one-day workshop on the importance of veterinary vaccines in preventing infectious diseases in livestock was organized today at Hall No. 3 of Pragna Bhavan, Agartala, through the joint initiative of Indian Immunological Limited (IIL) and the Animal Resources Development Department of Tripura.
The primary objective of the workshop was to raise awareness about the effectiveness of veterinary vaccines in preventing various infectious diseases in livestock and to emphasize the importance of technology-driven animal healthcare management. Detailed discussions were held on the prevention and control of Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis (IBR), Theileriosis, and Cysticercosis. Experts also highlighted recent technological advancements in veterinary vaccines, new innovations, and ways to ensure that the benefits of these services and projects reach livestock farmers.
The workshop was attended by the Secretary of the Animal Resources Development Department, Deepa D. Nair, as the chief guest. Other distinguished attendees included Dr. N. K. Chanchal, Dr. N. S. N. Varghav, and PVO, TTAADC Ratneswar Debbarma, along with departmental officials, veterinarians, and veterinary scientists. In her inaugural address, Deepa D. Nair emphasized the growing importance of modern technology, infrastructure development, capacity building, and human resource development in advancing the livestock and animal health sectors. She noted that the department has achieved significant success over the past five years through various initiatives, including the National Livestock Mission (NLM), Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM), and ASCARD. She further stated that the increasing use of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI), coupled with the impacts of climate change, has introduced new challenges in disease patterns, diagnosis, and prevention.
Stressing the need for modern strategies to address these challenges, she urged veterinarians to maintain regular communication with livestock owners and systematically document disease-related information. She also highlighted that veterinary scientists are continuously conducting research to develop new diseaseresistant vaccines and medicines.
Owing to technological advancements, the cost of veterinary medicines has also become comparatively lower, providing significant benefits to livestock farmers. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. N. S. N. Varghav, Senior Vice President of Indian Immunological Limited. Experts participating in the workshop underscored the critical role of vaccination in safeguarding livestock health, increasing productivity in the dairy and livestock sectors, and reducing financial losses for farmers.
