North-East Zone Inter-State Badminton Championship begins in Tripura

Agartala, Sep 8 (FD) Sports play an important role to shine the name of the country all over the world, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma said on Thursday.

After inaugurating the 4-day North East Inter-State Badminton Championship organized by Tripura Badminton Association at NSRCC Indoor Stadium here, Dev Varma who also holds

the post of president of Tripura Badminton Association said, “Now, sports are no longer an extra-curricular activity. Name, success, prestige and money are all at stake. Sports play an important role to shine the name of the country all over the world.”

This competition will continue till September 11 next in which Badminton players from 8 North Eastern states will participate.

The championship has been organized with the support of ONGC, SBI along with domestic companies like lonex, Sunrise etc.
The guests exchanged greetings with the players participating in the event.
 
While speaking at the event, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma said that the North Eastern states are the sports powerhouse of the country.
Athletes from the North-East bring home medals in all kinds of sports at the state and inter-state levels, he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister said, “There is a dire need to include sports as a subject in every educational institution these days.”
 
Players develop mentality to cope with any situation in life, Dev Varma said adding, sports play an important role in keeping the youth away from drug addiction.
 
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor, Dipak Majumdar, Tripura Legislative Assembly Chief Whip Kalyani Roy, Tripura Gymnastics Association president, Rajiv Bhattacharya, Tripura Tea Development Corporation Limited Chairman, Santosh Saha and others were present at the event. FD PD JK
