Agartala, Apr 17 (FD) Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday said North-East was languishing under the 'Loot East Policy' of the Congress-INDI Alliance, but a decade ago he put an end to the approach by championing the Act East policy.
Addressing an election rally on the last day of campaign for the first phase of loksabha elections at Swami Vivekananda Maidan here, he said, “Today, we champion the Act East Policy, driving forward the region's development. With over 50 visits in the last decade, Modi reaffirms unwavering dedication to its growth,” he said.
Taking a jibe at the Congress and left parties, Modi said, “The North East plays a pivotal role in India's 21st-century development. Despite decades of independence and Congress rule, the region's potential was overlooked. In Tripura, communist governance brought destruction rather than progress. Today, the government in Delhi prioritizes the North East and our Tripura. Beyond politics, it's about love and priority for me.
He said the HIRA model on which the BJP government has worked for the development of Tripura is being discussed in the entire country now. HIRA means Highway, Internet way, Railway and Airway.
Launching a scathing attack on the opposition, Modi said, the BJP led government in Tripura eyes for
Development, when in comparison the communists have left a legacy of destruction and the Congress left a legacy of corruption.
“Corruption thrived under CPM and Congress rule, turning Tripura into a hub of violence and malpractice. Now, they are united to preserve their vested interests”, he said.
“These Congress-Communists are so opportunistic that here in Tripura they have an alliance, but in Kerala, they are enemies of each other. In Kerala, Congress calls Communists terrorists and Communists call Congress very corrupt,” Modi said.
In an oblique reference to Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi, he said, “When the Congress Yuvraj demands the imprisonment of Kerala Chief Minister for alleged corruption. It's ironic how the same Congress, known for lambasting investigating agencies, now calls for action against the Kerala CM. We promise to hold corrupt individuals accountable, consistently exposing the truth about the Kerala CM's government”.
Modi said, the new government in the centre would build 3 crore new houses in the country, free ration for all beneficiaries will continue and every elderly person above 70 will receive free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh under Ayushman Yojana.
He said, “Thanks to the development of railways, Tripura has been connected by more than a dozen trains in the last 10 years. The work of electrification of the state's railway lines has been completed rapidly. Our own government has started Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in the capital Agartala”. FD JK
