No right to have ‘Right to Information ’ in Tripura University

Agartala, July 19 (FD) When the Right to Information Act guarantees the right of every citizen of India to access information under the control of public authorities to promote transparency and accountability, it seems that the culture of access to information has withered away from Tripura Central University.

There are many complaints that TU did not reply or furnish information even after filing RTI by giving due revenue.

One Sunit Sarkar, by profession an advocate sought some information on May, 30 this year, but even today he did not receive any response from the concerned official of the University.

It is the norm that information must be furnished within 30 days of filing RTI. There is also a rule that anyone can file RTI by paying Rs. 10 in cash, but they do not receive the cash and ask petitioner to pay through bank or other means.

Mr. Sarkar has filed an appeal to the First Appellate Authority of the University detailing all problems.

Now it remains to see if the Kumbhakarna breaks his deep sleep after filing the appeal. FD JK
