Agartala, Dec 27 (FD) No publisher from neighbouring Bangladesh is likely to join the 43rd Agartala Book Fair to be held from January 2 to 14, 2025, officials said on Friday.
The fair would be inaugurated by the Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha in Tripura’s Badharghat fairground in the capital city on January 2. The Director of Information and Cultural Affairs, Bimbisar
Bhattacharya said, so far no publisher from Bangladesh has applied for stalls in the Book Fair venue. However, the publishers from Guwahati, Kolkata and Delhi will participate in the Book Fair as the government has received applications for book stalls from those publishers. President of the Tripura Publishers Guild (TPG), Shubhabrata Deb said, “We are in touch with the publishers from Bangladesh, but they said they would not join the fair due to the situation arising out after the fall of the government led by Sheikh Hasina. For a long time they were selling books with us. This may be the first time that they are not joining us”.
One Tantu Roy, a regular visitor of the Book Fair said, “This is our loss in the sense that we will miss the writings of Bangladesh this time. However, we would hope that this situation would not prevail for a long time”. FD JK
