Agartala, May 13 (FD) Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath has launched a high-level investigation into suspected sabotage of Agartala's power infrastructure following a series of mysterious blackouts. Expressing deep concern, Nath stated that an organised network may be deliberately disrupting the power supply to create public unrest.
The Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) confirmed that despite no issues with main transmission lines, multiple areas experienced sudden outages on Monday night. Inspections revealed signs of intentional damage—cut-outs were removed, transformer gangs were dropped, and heavy objects thrown onto transmission wires, causing short circuits. At least 21 locations were affected, including acts of vandalism.
Preliminary evidence, including CCTV footage from Kamar Pukur Para, showed an individual disabling a transformer. An FIR has been lodged at East Agartala Police Station, and more footage is being reviewed. Minister Nath has engaged with the Superintendent of Police (SP) of West Tripura, the local Officer-in-Charge, and requested technical support from the IT Department.
Nath clarified that Tripura has no power shortage and these incidents are not technical faults. “This is a calculated attempt to disrupt public life,” he stated, urging citizens to stay alert and report suspicious activity.
Meanwhile, a state-level pre-monsoon meeting was held at Pragya Bhawan, chaired by Nath. Officials discussed pre-monsoon repair work, upcoming project plans, and the need to ensure uninterrupted electricity during the monsoon season. Nath emphasized completing all maintenance before rains begin to avoid public inconvenience.
