Agartala, Aug 5 (FD) Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday directed the police and civil administration to adopt a strict, coordinated and result-oriented approach to combat substance abuse and crime, asserting that there would be "no room for leniency" in the government's mission to build a drug-free Tripura.
Chairing a Task Monitoring System meeting via video conference from Conference Hall No. 2 of the State Secretariat, the Chief Minister instructed officials to constitute special task forces, wherever necessary, to carry out focused operations against drug trafficking and criminal activities. He also called for intensified police surveillance and regular patrolling, particularly around schools, colleges and identified crime-prone areas.
Emphasising close coordination between the police and district administration, Saha directed officials to identify vulnerable locations and strengthen preventive measures through sustained patrolling. He specifically instructed authorities to ensure round-the-clock CCTV surveillance and deploy additional police personnel in and around GB Hospital to curb criminal activities.
Saha also asked all District Magistrates to make comprehensive preparations for the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, scheduled from August 9 to 17, and celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of 'Vande Mataram'. The state-level programme will be held at Ujjayanta Palace on August 11.
Reviewing the tourism sector, the Chief Minister said maintaining cleanliness and an attractive environment was essential to promote tourism, noting that Tripura's tourism potential has gained national recognition. He directed district administrations and concerned departments to conduct regular inspections and ensure proper maintenance of major tourist destinations, including Chabimura, Unakoti, Dumboor and Neermahal.
On the education front, the Chief Minister ordered intensified inspections of government schools, stressing that improvements in academic standards must be complemented by better cleanliness, infrastructure, school environment, notice boards and overall administration. He warned that negligence in official duties would not be tolerated.
The meeting reviewed the progress of multiple sectors, including roads, electricity, drinking water, district hospitals, Social Welfare Department-run homes and hostels, immunisation, the Public Distribution System (PDS), Anganwadi centres and animal health services. Saha directed departments to resolve pending issues promptly through enhanced inter-departmental coordination.
Reviewing the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, the Chief Minister noted that nearly 85–86 per cent of the work had been completed and instructed officials to expedite the remaining projects. He also sought innovative solutions to address drinking water scarcity in areas such as Khowai and reviewed the progress of efforts to make Kailashahar Airport operational.
Highlighting the importance of people-centric governance, Saha urged officials to treat citizens with courtesy, sensitivity and professionalism. He asked District Magistrates to maintain close supervision over administrative functioning and ensure effective coordination among departments. Appreciating the work of District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police, he encouraged them to continue serving the people with greater dedication, efficiency and accountability.
At the outset, Chief Minister's Secretary and Information and Cultural Affairs Secretary Kiran Gitte presented an illustrated report on the functioning of the Task Monitoring System. Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, Directors and other senior officials attended the meeting, while District Magistrates, district police officials and departmental officers from all eight districts participated virtually.
