The External Affairs Ministry said that India has having its long standing national position on any issues related to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, adding that these issues will have to be addressed by India and Pakistan bilaterally. Replying to a question during Media briefing in New Delhi, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that India’s policy over this matter has not changed and any outstanding matter is the vacation of illegally occupied Indian territory by Pakistan.
In reply to another question, Mr Jaiswal said that no discussion on the issue was held between Indian and US leaders on the evolving military situation. He said, since the commencement of the Operation Sindoor on 7th May till the understanding on cessation of firing and military action on 10th May, there were conversations between Indian and US leaders but the issue of trade did not come up in any of these discussions.
In reply to a question on the Indus Water Treaty, MEA Spokesperson said this treaty was concluded in the spirit of goodwill and friendship as specified in the preamble of the treaty but Pakistan has held these principles in abeyance by its promotion of cross-border terrorism for several decades now. He said that now as per the decision of Cabinet Committee on Security, New Delhi will keep the treaty in abeyance until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably abjures its support for cross-border terrorism.
