NIA oprations reduced Influx of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis: BSF I.G

Agartala, April 22 (FD) A top BSF official on Monday claimed that the influx Rohingyas and Bangladeshis have considerably declined along the 856 Km long border with Bangladesh following operations against the touts by NIA.
Inspector General of BSF, Tripura frontier, Patel Pijush Purusottam Das, said, the illegal infiltrators including Rohingyas and Bangladeshi nationals are using Tripura as a corridor to reach different destinations in the country and established network of Touts of Modules across border which facilitate illegal migration.
Touts and harbourers having access & network in different parts of Tripura and they are involved in facilitating illegal crossing, providing shelters, providing genuine and fake identity documents and providing assistance during travelling for further destinations.
“In the month of November 2023, a special operation was launched by NIA with the active assistance of BSF and several touts involved in illegal migration has been apprehended. Prominent infiltration routes have been identified and BSF in close coordination with sister agencies is closely monitoring the activities of touts. This has considerably reduced the number of infiltration attempts”, the I.G said.
He said, regular interactions with the BGBs in different levels of the force have helped in settling various long pending bilateral issues between India and Bangladesh by the initiative and persistent efforts of BSF.
Das said altogether 1,018 illegal infiltrators were detained while crossing the international border in the last one-and-a-half years.
"Currently, the Single Row Fence (SRF) work is in progress at eight gaps in stretches. The BSF has also taken initiatives at the local level to plug the nullah and culvert gaps to prevent illegal activities," he said in a press note. FD JK
