NFR continues to expand its freight operations towards better customer interface

Guwahati, Dec 16 (FD) N. F. Railway (NFR) has been adopting several initiatives to improve the freight transportation system within the zone and beyond, to provide better customer interface. To adhere to such initiatives, more stations have been opened and equipped for handling of both inward and outward goods traffic to facilitate smooth and feasible transportation for various goods by customers.
To improve customer interface and augment freight revenue, NFR continues to strengthen its freight transportation network through innovative measures and expanded operations. In a significant development, a consignment of rice was successfully transported from Tufanganj railway station in West Bengal to Jirania railway station in Tripura during the month of November, 2024. M/s Tufanganj Agro Industries Pvt. Ltd. dispatched the goods rake of common rice, under the ‘Mini Rake Demand’ scheme. Payment for the transaction was completed online, reflecting IR’s embrace of digital payment systems for enhanced customer convenience. The entire process, from loading directly from trucks to the careful management of consignment weight and volume, underscores its commitment to providing reliable, transparent and high-quality rail freight services. The shipment adhered to the highest safety standards, with wagons jointly inspected to ensure fitness and watertight conditions, thus making the railway freight transportation system, as the most economic and one of the fastest modes of transportation of good within the nation.
In another milestone, for the first time, NFR has commenced the loading of quartzite from Binnaguri railway station to SSPL Siding in West Bengal. This new initiative is expected to generate an approximate revenue of Rs. 40 lakh per rake, opening new avenues for economic growth and further reinforcing the zone’s commitment to boosting freight operations.
These initiatives underscore NFR’s relentless focus on modernizing freight logistics and providing seamless transportation solutions, thereby ensuring the railways remain a trusted and preferred partner for businesses across the nation.
