Agartala, Jun 18 (FD) In a bid to maintain railway tracks in proper condition and provide a safe and comfortable journey to rail passengers, Northeast Frontier Railway (N.F. Railway) has undertaken significant track renewal works during the month of May 2023, an official press release said.
As per the press release issued by Sabyasachi De, Chief Public Relations Officer of NFR, these efforts have resulted in improved safety, increased train speeds, and an enhanced riding experience for passengers.
Through Sleeper Renewal was carried out on a total of 12.10 track kilometres, ensuring the stability and durability of the railway tracks. Additionally, 12.5 equivalent sets of Through Turnout Renewals were completed, enhancing the efficiency of rail junctions, the press released added.
According to the press release, to reinforce the integrity of the tracks, 644 rail joints were welded using the advanced Flash Butt welding method. This technique provides robust connections, minimizing the risk of rail fractures and ensuring safe operations. Furthermore, 0.60 lakh cubic metres of ballast were meticulously inserted into the railway tracks, maintaining their stability and alignment.
Recognizing the importance of reliable signaling systems, N.F. Railway replaced 666 signaling batteries of various capacities. These replacements contribute to the seamless functioning of signaling equipment, ensuring accurate and timely information for train operations, the official release reads.
As part of their safety measures, N.F. Railway employed Ultra Sonic Flaw Detection (USFD) technology, testing a substantial distance of 1707.78 kilometres of track during May 2023, the press release said adding the cutting-edge technique detects flaws such as cracks, enabling timely removal of defective rails to enhance overall safety.
