Agartala, May 22 (FD) A newly constructed veterinary dispensary was inaugurated in Madhupur under Bishalgarh subdivision on Friday, aiming to improve animal healthcare services and strengthen the socio-economic condition of livestock rearers in the region. The facility was inaugurated by Sudhangshu Das, Minister of the Animal Resource Development Department.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony held near the Madhupur Health Centre, the minister stated that the present state government is committed to improving the livelihoods of people associated with animal husbandry. He said the newly opened veterinary dispensary would provide accessible and affordable healthcare services for domestic animals in Madhupur and nearby areas.
According to the minister, local residents can now avail vaccination and treatment facilities for their livestock through a registration process costing only Rs 5. He further informed that emergency veterinary healthcare services are also available through the 1962 helpline number, under which veterinary doctors along with ambulance services can reach households requiring urgent assistance.
Highlighting future plans, the minister announced that the Animal Resource Development Department will introduce 50 mini mobile veterinary units during the 2025–26 financial year. He said the initiative would significantly improve access to veterinary treatment in remote and rural areas across the state.
The minister also spoke about the Chief Minister Pranipalak Samman Nidhi Yojana, launched to provide financial support to livestock rearers. Under the scheme, beneficiaries receive annual financial assistance of Rs 6,000. This year, nearly 700 beneficiaries from Sepahijala district have reportedly received support under the programme.
The newly constructed veterinary dispensary building has been developed at a cost of approximately Rs 1.33 crore. Addressing the gathering, MLA Antara Sarkar Deb described the inauguration as a historic moment for the region and expressed hope that the facility would play a major role in supporting livestock farmers and promoting sustainable economic growth.
Among others present at the programme were Supriya Das Dutta, Director of the Animal Resource Development Department Neeraj Kumar Chanchal, village panchayat representatives, and local officials. FD JK
